This new dynamic luxury charter of grandparents, youngsters and extended friends and family, heading for the horizon to recharge and reconnect, has a wide-ranging appetite for the simple and sophisticated, from the humble kayak, stand up paddleboard and sailboat to motorised gear such as the very Bond Flyboard X and deep-diving Seadoo Seascooter.
What better way to savour the sun, and family-time than lapping up some on-water fun, whether flying flat-out or just reclining flat-out!
Here is a selection of the latest water toys onboard luxury charter yachts that will add a healthy dose of H2O-oooooooooooooo! to your charter experience.
Sea Pool and inflatables
The humble net off the back of your boat has been reimagined, resulting in high-tech mesh pools designed to keep out unwelcome sea creatures and add to salt-water fun. Then there are the tubes, trampolines, tow toys, climbing walls and everybody's favourite, the super slide. Funair is one manufacturer that specialises in inflatables, including shaded swim platforms and pools, seastairs, floating golf platforms and floating fun zones.
Stand Up Paddleboard
Not only is the SUP a fantastic means of heading to shore under your own steam, you can see all manner of sealife from a safe vantage point and marvel at Nemo and his friends while getting your daily exercise. The world's fastest growing pastime, SUP is a mellow way to greet the day, perhaps try out some yoga moves, or amp up the fun with a spot of surfing closer to the beach.
From the sublime to the supercharged, this is the way to scale the heights and view your charter yacht and friends from above! The sky is literally the limit with the Flyboard which can rise to a height of 10m or dive 10m below the surface too. According to its inventor, French Jet Ski champion Franky Zapata, the average person takes approximately 20 minutes to learn the skill. Technically known as hydro-powered levitated flight, it uses jet propulsion from any Jet Ski over 100HP, dispersing water through a 21m long Kevlar hose and out of four jet thruster units located on the hands and feet of the Flyboard.
Another major attraction with those seeking high-energy thrills, the JetLev Flyer is a brilliant backpack tethered to an autonomous boat which follows the rider. The boat unit delivers low pressure, high flow water through a 33ft (10m) hose to the jetpack where thrust is generated by forcing the water through the nozzles located on either side of jetpack. It's fast, fun and as easy as squeezing the throttle in the handle grip, where the rider controls altitude and speed.
A flying motorcycle that propels you over the water – what more could you want? The Jetovator easily attaches to an existing Seadoo, while its 40ft connecting hose, allows for a safe distance between the PWC and the Jetovator. Learners can adjust the joysticks for slower flying, while the daredevil rider can hit speeds of 25mph (40kmh), rise 9m high and dive to 3m.
Seadoo Seascooter is a fun means of propulsion for the entire family. Capable of speeds of 3 to 7km per hour and depending on the model, to depths of 20 to 40-metres, the Seascooter allows you to dive, snorkel and explore much further afield, saving you energy and assisting less than confident swimmers. The new model of this dynamic diving device comes with the option of a Gopro mount for capturing your underwater escapades.
Hailed as a revolution in bike design, the Schiller X1 Water Bike lets you ride with dolphins and really work up a sweat, according to its designer, Judah Schiller. The S1 is designed to deliver a fast, exhilarating and safe ride. Quiet, sustainable and human powered, the lightweight S1 is easy to assemble, transport and store in compact spaces.
Funny name, awesome experience! More than a surfboard, Lampuga is a lightweight carbon-fibre board named after the dolphinfish, with a powerful full-electric jet drive, making the Lampuga as fast, agile and smooth as its namesake.
Yes, the flying skateboard from Back to the Future is here now! The Wakejet Cruise is the world's first electric powered wakeboard. Combining the speed of wakeboarding with the freedom of surfing, it is ideal for any body of water and its inventors say is "as easy as standing up!"The Wakejet is powered by the latest in lithium-ion battery technology and its speed controlled by a wireless and water proof remote. Plus, they assure us the electric motor emits close to zero sound for a quiet, smooth ride.
Quadrofoil is a two-person electric hydrofoiling personal watercraft (PWC), which provides the most economically efficient and completely environmentally friendly mode of recreational marine transportation. Due to hydrofoiling and patented steering technology, riding feels like flying on water and provides an entirely new and thrilling water experience.
From far-ranging scientific explorer type subs to compact personal craft, the sub is the latest must-have that attracts the crowds at yacht shows and demonstrations. Made in the Netherlands by Uboatworx, the Super Yacht Sub 3 boasts a relatively low weight, unobstructed cabin for clear underwater viewing and many safety and performance features. It can get down to 300m at a cruising speed of three knots. The Super Yacht Sub 3 will launch at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show in September.
Ok, this is really one for the adrenaline junkies! The Strand Craft V8 Wet Rod is a 16ft (4.8m) vessel capable of carrying up to three people. It's powered by a 5.7 litre V8 engine producing 300 horsepower which is connected to a water jet drive. Top speed of the vehicle is a claimed 65 mph.
